Unveiling Life's Portals: Birth, Existence, and Thoughtful Reflections
Your Thoughts Manifest Your Reality
Two portals are experienced by every human that exists. An entry point at one’s birth and an exit point at one’s departure. Then there’s the resting place, where your remnants are dropped off and act as a reminder of your existence - as a being that has completed the cycle of life this lifetime (depending on your personal belief system of course).
Last week we sat in a restaurant eating dinner with the window open on Main Street, Sag Harbor, New York (my soul home). I could see the building next door - the red brick, grand, municipal office. It was the exact place of birth of Prentice Mulford - an American writer and influential figure in the New Thought movement during the late 19th century.
At the time, it was a hotel owned by his parents and he was born on the fourth floor. I felt really preoccupied with this concept as I was waiting for my heirloom vegetable vegan bowl to be delivered to the table.
Mulford's most notable 1889 work is a collection of essays titled "Thoughts Are Things," (the namesake for this Substack actually). In this book, he discusses various topics such as the power of positive thinking, the importance of self-confidence, and the impact of our thoughts on shaping our reality.
Mulford believed that by harnessing the power of our thoughts, individuals could achieve personal success, happiness, and spiritual growth.
His work has had a profound impact on my own work as a spiritual advisor and manifestation expert. And yet, I didn't know he was born in Sag Harbor until AFTER I fell in love with this beautiful little town in The Hamptons, in 2020.
After dinner on this particular evening, my family and I drove past the local cemetery, his tombstone etched with the words that remain his lifelong legacy: Thoughts Are Things.
I thought to myself how surreal it is that his birth portal and final resting place are mere mile from one another. The beginning and the end bookending the duration of one's life.
How often do people draw this parallel? That every human that exists will have two portals, two sets of coordinates of the entry portal and exit portal.
A random and sad truth is that Prentice Mulford died in a canoe on his way back home to his place of birth. He died a penniless man after a lifetime of striving for abundance and writing about how to manifest it. This did not mean that he was not wealthy. His riches were in the understanding that the trees, the land and the water are a form of abundance - beyond the surface level lure of material possessions. This is why I admire this man's work so much.
The beautiful awareness here is that between the birth place and the resting place is the unfolding of our life experience - all of the lessons and blessings we need for our soul's to grow and expand in consciousness.
Our lives are constantly etching into the cosmic records our actions, deeds, impact and legacy. The goal is to connect with other humans, to feel all the feelings and experience the magic of being alive as a powerful manifestor.
And no-one knows for sure when the next portal will open for you to transition to your next chapter. But what's important to do is to live life to the fullest and remember that your thoughts are things.
