Are Writers in Danger of Being Replaced by AI? The Impact of Technology on the Heart Of The Writing Industry
Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Evolution of Writing: Threats and Opportunities for the Writing Industry.
For people that love writing, the thought of being replaced by a machine is a truly terrifying thought.
Birthing new ideas and creating works of art is meant to take time. In fact, for the true artist, it's meant to mess with the fabric of time.
The love for the craft is reflected in how hours can pass by quickly and yet it feels like minutes.
However, now you can simply input a set of actions into something like ChatGPT and an entire novella could be churned out in a matter of a few clicks. This is a far cry from the computer in my 2nd grade classroom in 1989 that could draw a triangle with tiny turtle symbol.
ChatGPT and AI writing programs are turning the world of writing upside down.
Need a thesis? No problem.
Need an essay for your homework? No problem.
An outline for your book? No problem.
But the biggest and most glaring problem is cutting out the most important bridge in the history of humanity...the heart. 💜
The heart is fueled by experience and wisdom that is acquired through real-life adventures. It's the grit of living that makes a good writer.
We write from the depths of our souls to inspire others. We channel from the non-physical realm different ideas that need to be birthed to awaken new spiritual pathways in the hearts and minds of the readers. A writer writes to be heard, to transmute pain, to alchemize experience, to entertain, to elicit emotions, to liberate and to teach.
There are probably more reasons a writer writes than there are stars in the sky.
And yet, AI is a tool that is as revolutionary as a McDonald's drive-thru restaurant.
Here's your thesis. You want fries with that?
Now please don't misunderstand me, I am not against the use of AI as a powerful tool to lighten the literary load. It just depends on what it is and how it is used. If you are using ChatGPT to write a letter to your landlord because your toilet it broken, then cool. If you're a marketer that needs help writing your Facebook ads, then have at it.
I've dabbled in ChatGPT to help out on a few things and it's actually quite handy.
My main concern is this...
Words that are devoid of nutritional value need to come with a warning. In fact, I could imagine that books now need to be labelled: "Written by a human." Just as Etsy goods are labelled "Hand Made".
Reading is a powerful energetic transaction.
It's being open to receiving the offering that the writer has spent time creating for you.
Another concern is taking the short-cut when it comes to allowing an essence to flow through you as creation. As a manifestation teacher, it's the spiritual bypassing that bothers me the most - the cutting of corners.
For instance, you know the phrase: "It's better than sliced bread?"
My grandmother (born in 1913) loathed sliced bread. She thought it was lazy. In her mind it was better to buy the loaf unsliced and to then cut it as needed on a chopping board with a massive serrated knife.
She would say: "Idle hands do the Devil's work."
In a way, it's interesting to note how many things in society we are now able to do that no longer require us to use our hands.
And if we are further encouraged not to use our creative and intuitive faculties then humanity will surely suffer.
